QoT-Aware Optical Amplifier Placement in Filterless Metro Networks

چکیده

Filterless Optical Networks (FONs) represent a novel cost-effective solution for metro optical networks, that allows to achieve equipment-cost savings by removing expensive optical-switching components from network nodes. In this study, we investigate how further reduce equipment cost in FONs minimizing amplifiers’ cost. We propose Genetic Algorithm (GA) placing boosters, inline amplifiers and pre-amplifiers with the objective of provide two versions GA compare their performance against baseline amplifier placement terms quality-of-transmission (QoT), i.e., lightpaths OSNR received power. Moreover, comparison between filterless wavelength-switched architectures. Simulative results achieved over realistic topologies show significant savings, up 60% compared approaches.

Optimal Amplifier Placement for Optical Networks

Amplifiers are one of the most important components in an optical WDM network, and they are used to restore the strength of optical signals which are attenuated by optical fibers as they propagate through the network. However, amplifiers also introduce the spontaneous emission noise which degrades the optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR). In this paper, we study the amplifier placement problem ...

Chapter # 5 REGIONAL - METRO OPTICAL NETWORKS

Regional and metropolitan networks are undergoing rapid transformations, propelled by shifting bandwidth and market paradigms. These evolutions have revealed some serious limitations with legacy SONET/SDH infrastructures and opened up many new avenues for the application of new, maturing optical technologies. This chapter presents a critical look at some of the major evolutions and challenges s...

QoS-Aware Radio-and-Fiber (R&F) Access-Metro Networks

Future bimodal fiber-wireless (FiWi) access-metro networks may deploy both radio-over-fiber (RoF) and radio-andfiber (R&F) technologies. RoF networks are rapidly becoming mature, but they fall short of interworking with distributed wireless MAC protocols such as DCF in widely deployed IEEE 802.11 WLANs. While R&F networks are able to avoid this limitation by means of protocol translation at the...

Fuzzy Controlled Dynamic QoT Routing and Wavelength Assignment in Transparent Optical Networks

In a transparent optical network, a transmitted signal remains in the optical domain over the entire route (lightpath) assigned to it between its source and destination nodes. In this paper, a novel Fuzzy dynamic routing and wavelength assignment technique is proposed for a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical network, to achieve the best quality of network transmission and network se...

Placement of Light Splitters in Optical Networks

For a multicast routing algorithm to be applicable in optical networks, it must route data only to group members, optimize and maintain loop-free routes, and concentrate them on a subset of links. In order to do this, light trees must be generated to route data in the optical layer to all the group members. To apply this, optical nodes have to branch one incoming light wave to more than one out...
